SLEEPLESS SUMMER NIGHT
Wake whenever
light or late.
Three quarter moon will slip past
sung by purrowing cats.
Some swifts will be up there
tipping and tilting slight
in sleep,
to dip and rise with the sun.
My heart beats
thud thud
thud thud.
Not broken then,
not ripped, not torn asunder
Sleep
heavy lidded woman -
be with the thudding heartbeat
that covers the terror
